Sunday June 25th 2017 will see the 22nd ‘Follow the Herring’ 10k Road Run and 2k ‘Wee Sporran’ Fun Run.

2k ‘Wee Sporran’ Fun Run

Starting at 10.00am the route begins at the Portsoy Playing Fields, goes around Portsoy then down into the harbour area to finish at the Shore Inn.

The start time will not be changed as the race runs on a tight schedule and ties in with the Boat Festival programme of events.  All runners will gain free admission to the Boat Festival, a medal and goody bag.

Participants for the 2k ‘Wee Sporran’ Fun Run must be aged 8 years or over on the day of the race, with no upper age limit applicable.

10k ‘Follow The Herring’ Road Run

Starting at 10.30am, the 10k also begins at Portsoy Playing Fields, it then heads west towards Sandend and turns inland to climb up the Durn Hill, down past Damheads before turning left onto the Huntly Road. One more diversion takes the run past Durn Cottages, Durn Farm and Durn House before turning onto the Banff Road and heading into Portsoy.  Once in Portsoy you will turn right onto the route of the old railway track to the harbour, finishing at the Shore Inn.

Participants for the 10k ‘Follow The Herring’ Road Run must be aged 16 years or over on the day of the race.

Race Day Information

Registration for both races takes place from 08.30am, registration for pre-entries will close at 10.15am, for those who are entering on the day registration will close at 09.45am.

Those participating in the 2k ‘Wee Sporran’ Fun Run must be aged 8 years or over on the day of the race, with no upper age limit applicable.  Those participating in the 10k ‘Follow The Herring’ Road Run must be aged 16 years or over on the day of the race.

Car parking is available at Portsoy Playing Fields, where both races start.  Both races finish by the Shore Inn at the Old Harbour.  From the finish line, it is less than 10 minutes’ walk back to the car park, shuttle buses are available and run regularly from the main Festival areas to the car park.

All runners are given a goody bag, a medal and are permitted into the Festival free of charge.

We regret that this year’s races are unsuitable for those in wheelchairs.

No roller skates, pushchairs, objects being carried for charities, pets, horses or dogs (with the exception of guide dogs) will be permitted on the race courses.

By entering the races you give permission for the free use of your name and picture in any advertising promotion carried out by The Scottish Traditional Boat Festival and/or Aberdeenshire Sports Council.
