Foodie Heaven Awaits at

The Scottish Traditional Boat Festival

From lobster and crab to wild Scottish venison and Aberdeen Angus beef, local cheeses, chutneys and jams to gin, rum and whisky – 38 food and drink vendors will be showcasing their delicious produce in the festival Food Fayre.

To whet your appetite, here is a selection of the food and drink businesses which will be appearing at the event:

Delicious fresh lobster and crab rolls, salads and platters will be on offer from The Lobster Shop by shellfish merchants, Murray, McBay and Company, Johnshaven.

Portsoy New Harbour

Woodmill Game in Fife, will be offering its wild Scottish venison and game from its family deer stalking and game bird business. Visitors can buy pre-cut vacuum-packed meat to take home, whilst their catering business, Screaming Peacock will have a variety of vegetarian dishes alongside vension or game burgers and hotdogs.

Just a few miles from Portsoy, Little Rowater from Cornhill will have cuts of venison from their own red deer herd, alongside beef from their Galloway cattle. Fresh ostrich and emu eggs may also be available.

Award-winning Bannerman Butchers from Inverbervie will have a range of butcher meat and pies made from locally reared beef along with a selection of cheese, oatcakes and delicious cheesecakes. They will also be selling their famous Bervie baps-thinly sliced steak in a soft bun with either nacho cheese or homemade pepper sauce, alongside double hot dogs.

Well Hung and Tender from Berwick upon Tweed, will make a welcome return to the festival, with their very popular Aberdeen Angus burgers – the aromas alone are enough to make your mouth-water! Bringing some international flavours to the festival are Edelwurst Catering from Stuartfield, Aberdeenshire serving vegan bratwurst and vegan schnitzel alongside the traditional German sausages and chicken schnitzel and Frikadellen burgers. Paella Ecosse, from Inverurie will have their freshly cooked paellas, tapas and churros, all prepared whilst you wait and featuring locally caught fish and shellfish. Bringing a variety of charcuterie and pork products will be Newburgh-based, Ingram’s Home Cure.

Home bakes and sweet treats will be on offer from Peterhead-based Blue Toon Bakes, Littlefield Farm Shop from Aberchirder will be sharing a variety of handmade jams, chutneys and bakes and a taste of the islands will be on offer from The Isle of Skye Bakery. Bogmoon Bees, from Cairnie near Portsoy, will have their range of beautifully smooth and delicious runny honey, made from their very own beehives.

Sweet treats are in abundance from Val’s Scottish Tablet from Kinross, including homemade Scottish tablet and fudge, whilst chocolate lovers can indulge in Belgian chocolates, traditional fudge, marshmallows and Italian biscuits from Pure Decadence by Loch Aurora and The Green Cocoa Team will have their range of truffles and Belgian chocolates.

With plenty of food options available, there will be a variety of drinks producers in attendance including, Ice and Fire Distillery from Caithness. Inspired by their local area, this family of Highland Crofters handcraft a range of small batch, artisan gin, rum and vodka. Highland Boundary from Perthshire will offer their range of spirits created using local hand-picked botanicals. Alcohol and fruit liqueurs including rhubarb, blackberry and coffee will be available from The Ellon Spirit Company. Whisky aficionados can sample a range of Scottish malts, at the Single Malts Limited stand, from Huntly. Mixing it up will be Macduff Distillery, with a range of different cocktails available for visitors to try.

Non-alcoholic refreshments can also be found, from Broughty Blends, who use botanicals from around the world to make their range of great tasting, luxury tea in Broughty Ferry. Ovenbird Coffee Roasters from Glasgow will be serving coffee and their delicious hot chocolate, which is a must try – it’s the best!

No visit to the festival would be complete without a scoop of Portsoy Ice-Cream, with so many delicious flavours, the challenge is knowing which one to try! The strawberry van from Deeside Soft Fruit will be serving freshly picked berries with hot waffles, pancakes or muffins. Wheelie Sweets will also be serving mini Dutch pancakes, cookie dough drinks and ice-creams.
